The Light We Choose to Carry
Beauty, defiance, and the talismans that keep us grounded
There is no easy way to say this:
People are being harmed.
By governments. By systems. By silence.
And I know I’m not alone in feeling this ache, this anger, this deep grief at watching violence done in the name of power. As a woman, as an immigrant, as an artist, as a human being, I feel it in my body.
It would be easier to turn away. Easier still to post something beautiful and pretend this moment isn’t happening.
But that’s not who I am. That’s not why I create.
I don’t carve jewelry to distract from the world.
I carve it to remember.
To resist forgetting.
Because in times like these, beauty becomes a form of defiance.
We are told to stay quiet, to keep consuming, to keep scrolling.
But I believe in presence. I believe in calling things what they are.
And I believe in carrying light, especially when everything around us feels dark.
Holding Beauty in a Time of Brutality
There are moments when making jewelry feels impossible.
Not because suffering is new, it never is, but because sometimes it hits closer to home.
How do you shape gold while people are being brutalized?
How do you speak of intention and magic when the air feels thick with grief, rage, and helplessness?
But maybe that’s exactly when beauty matters most.
Not as an escape, but as an anchor.
Beauty reminds us that we are still human.
That we are not numb.
That tenderness is still possible, and worth protecting.
In a world that profits from disconnection and division, choosing beauty with meaning is a radical act.
Not beauty that erases or distracts,
But beauty that sees, that feels, that remembers.
The Cactus Blooms Anyway
The Boheme Blooming Cactus has always stood for resilience.
But in this moment, it feels like more than that.
It’s about enduring with purpose.
Protecting what’s sacred.
And insisting on blooming, even in hostile conditions.
The cactus thrives in desertic terrain. And still, it flowers.
It protects itself without apology.
This jewel is delicate, yes. And it’s powerful.
It carries the energy of resilience, of blooming in hard places, of softness that shields itself with fierce spines.
A reminder of the courage it takes to keep showing up when the world feels unkind.
Beauty not as an escape,
but as a way through,
a beacon of light to fight the dark.
Your light.
I wear this talisman now as a way of reminding myself:
I am still here.
I will still choose to stand and protect.
I will still carve meaning.
And I hope you’ll carry meaning too, in whatever form feels true to you.
Talisman as Testimony
When I say I create talismans, I mean that literally.
Each one is a small sculpture of intention, something you wear close to your body as a way to remember.
Remember what you value.
Remember who you are.
Remember the world you want to help shape.
In this moment, it might feel shallow to wear jewelry.
But to me, choosing a symbol that reflects your values, your strength, your grief, your hope, none of that is shallow.
It’s deeply human.
And sometimes, it’s the smallest acts that keep us anchored.
Lighting a candle. Holding a charm.
Touching something that reminds you of what matters.
I don’t think that saves the world.
But we carry these reminders close. Because sometimes, the smallest things help us hold onto our humanity.
That’s what talismans are for.
We Bloom, Even in Harsh Times
This is not a sales pitch.
This is a love letter to everyone who feels so much right now.
To those who are grieving.
To those who are angry.
To those who feel helpless.
To those who are out there fighting, resisting in any way they can.
To those who refuse to harden. Much like myself.
You are supposed to feel.
You may be called to create.
You deserve to wear beauty that brings you meaning.
You are still blooming, even in this.
And if you need a reminder, you can carry one.
Keep shining your light as only you can.
Take good care of yourself, and each other.
Sending love, always,
Delphine
